INVITES YOU TO STAND WITH US ON MORAL POSITIONS
LOTTERY POSITION: Gambling, or a form of it, the Lottery, are poor use of assets and violate basic stewardship principles. Violators suffer because of it. See Matthew 25: 28-30. Gen 3: 19, "In the sweat of thy brow shalt thou eat bread." Each person is to "bear his own burden," Gal 6:5, to "eat his own bread," 2 Thes 3:12, and "to work with his own hands." 1 Thes 4:11. We are warned to "take heed and beware covetousness." Luke 12:15. Gambling violates these Biblical principles, resulting in the personal destruction of many as well as the corruption of our society. The lottery, violates the commandment , "Thou shalt not covet," Those who are snared by their greed will have their wealth taken from them. The fruits of the lottery include devastated family budgets, marriage conflicts, divorce, poverty, hungry children, as well as the corruption of society and politicians. Gambling addicts need to be protected from having their wealth taken from them and their families left in great distress. Our forefathers wanted to protect families and the poor so they permanently banned the lottery and gambling in the Tennessee Constitution. The church provides information on the lottery to make the simple beware and so that those who will listen will avoid destruction.
